This is a small group of people who use 4Winds who work together with 4Winds staff to deliver training/presentations to raise awareness of lived experience of mental health issues and to highlight the work of 4Winds. The group has presented to a wide range of organisations including Job Centres, the Department of Work of Pensions, local conferences and workshops and academic institutions. We have forged good working relations with both of the Universities in Cardiff and are now formal partners on the Social Work courses available at Cardiff’s Metropolitan University undergraduate degree and the MA in Social Work at Cardiff University. If you would like to get involved, would like the group to arrange some training/give a talk at your organisation, or would like further information, please get in touch.
Feedback from course directors for MA in Social Work at Cardiff University
'I just wanted to write to thank you for your contribution to the MASW teaching last week. The feedback from the students was, as usual, extremely positive. They really appreciated the way …and …. were able to put across their views and reflect on their experiences and were fascinated by what you told them about 4 Winds’ approach. A few of my tutees told me in a meeting a couple of days later that they are now thinking of working in mental health services on the strength of that session! It really is a privilege having this input into our course, and I am very grateful for …. and …..’s courage and generosity. I’m delighted that we still managed to have this session despite the challenges of social distancing! I hope we can keep this connection going for many years to come – it’s such a valuable component of the course.'
‘I am writing to thank members of 4Winds who came to present to a group of 48 students on the first Year of the MA in Social Work Course at Cardiff University. The contribution from both members and staff of 4 Winds was excellent. Indeed students have already reported to the Care Council for Wales how much they appreciated their input and rate their visit as one of the most important element of their learning. I was present at their presentations and was impressed by the quality of what they had to say. It was clear that members and staff of 4Winds were well prepared. They spoke clearly and professionally and gave an excellent picture of what it is like to experience mental ill health and what both helps and hinders the journey to recovery. It was evident that 4Winds as an organisation plays an important part in that recovery journey. For students they could see the importance of a recovery approach and could see how important 4Winds is as co-production partners to their members but with us here at Cardiff University too. For the MASW Programme at Cardiff University 4Winds is an important partner.’

Feedback from Students
'I'd be very grateful if you could again pass on my many thanks and tell her how she left me reflecting on how important it is to empower individuals, but also to safeguard and risk assess.'
'I thought it was great that X came to speak to us and was happy to open up and answer questions, it would take a lot of bravery for anyone! It was so inspiring'
'My experience of working with people with mental health issues is limited so I was very much looking forward to listening to practitioners and clients from this particular field. '
'Listening to the practitioner share her wealth of knowledge and experience with us was very interesting, naturally showing the engagement skills and passion to successfully interact with adults with Mental Health issues. I commend the client for sharing such personal and intimate information with us. It was courageous and extremely brave, which in part I would think is a reflection of the work that 4Winds has completed with her such as confidence building. The client’s story was inspiring to other adults with mental health issues and students looking to pursue a career in mental health.'
